WORKING IN VIETNAM

Vietnam is one of the most popular teaching destinations, as the cuisine, landscapes, cultural mix and amazing historical sites make it an attractive and enriching country to teach and live in.

Vietnam has seen a huge number of International schools open in the last 5 years. With a total population of over 95 million people, the sheer size of the Vietnamese population means that there will still be many high-potential and high-performing students who can benefit from an education in premium International schools.

It is worth noting that the leading Chinese cities are successful in reaching levels of student performance that match those of Singapore. This analogy causes people to be optimistic that urban HCMC and Hanoi, especially, will become more active and successful consumers of International education.

Teachers in Vietnam can experience a relatively low cost of living, as food, accommodation and leisure pursuits are all relatively cheap for Asia. Teachers are high in demand across all curricula, especially the UK, IB and US curriculum schools.

Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City is one of only 27 cities in the world that has more than 50 English-medium International schools. It currently boasts 66 schools that offer education in the English language and a curriculum that is relevant to an International student population.

Ho Chi Minh City has 59 per cent of Vietnam’s International schools, and there’s a fairly even split of schools that are either British or American in their orientation.

The country’s other major city, Hanoi, has 36 International schools to choose from.

Some of the travel highlights that teachers can benefit from are:

  • Khai Dinh Tomb in Hue
  • Marble Mountains
  • Hang Son Doong Cave
  • Bac Ha Market
  • Hang Nga’s Guesthouse in Da Lat
  • Nha Trang
  • Cu Chi Tunnels
  • Mekong Delta
  • Hoi An
  • Ha Long Bay
