WORKING IN THE KINGDOM OF SAUDI ARABIA

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is a proud nation.  It leads the Gulf States due to its size, its great oil wealth and the importance of its religious sites. This is a fast-growing area attracting many teachers to established and new private schools.

Working in Saudi provides good pay, allowing you to build up your savings, without the temptation of expensive retail goods and the social opportunities of nearby neighbouring countries.

Management practices on-the-ground and in schools have been very variable. You could get lucky and find generous employment, a good workload, sympathetic management and engaged students. Or you might find an environment of poor leadership and communication, where students and parents exert too much influence in areas like assessment.

Again, the striking thing about Saudi is the speed of change. Everyone now expects the private school sector to grow quickly and school standards to rise. There are new opportunities for outside companies to own businesses. This is a market that looks ripe and ready for a huge surge forward.

If you look carefully at what each school has to offer, this can be a fabulous place to forge or accelerate an International school career.

An Iqama, or residency permit, is needed and your employer (sponsor) should have that in place within 3 months of your arrival. The sponsor becomes responsible for your conduct.
