MOVING ABROAD CHECKLIST

Once you have your perfect job offer, there are many things that we suggest you do before you step on the aeroplane to your new adventure

Follow our checklist for some guidance as to what needs to be done before you leave:

  • Find out if you need a visa in your desired country and under what conditions? Ensure that your school have put everything in place to secure your visa.  It is very unlikely that a school or agent will ask for money to process your visa.  If they do then please make contact with us for advice as to how to proceed
  • Double check the medical insurance that the school is offering and that you are covered as you step on the plane, as you may need to purchase travel insurance to cover your journey
  • Sort out your property in your home country if you are a homeowner
  • Manage your finances and budget before you go, including things like student loans, national insurance etc
  • Some countries will require attested documents, these could include qualifications, marriage certificates, birth certificates. Ensure that the school gives you clarity on what you need in plenty of time, as this is much easier to accomplish in your home country
  • Scan or download your teaching resources and important documents
  • Get proof of your criminal record check
  • Find out from your employer how much help you can expect when you arrive, particularly where you will be staying for those first few days
  • Read about the local laws of the country you are visiting. This will help you to settle and embrace the local culture and immerse yourself in it
  • Seek out fellow expats and develop a social network as soon as you can
  • If you find you have any issues or concerns in your first few weeks talk to your school
