WORKING IN KUWAIT

Kuwait is one of the smaller Gulf States and it has great oil wealth. It has a long tradition of valuing and embracing education.

There are few International schools with high fees but plenty in the mid-to-high range.

Management practices can vary. Sometimes, teachers find that their schools have hands-on owners, which can be an advantage, bringing the school closer to its community.

Kuwait is a country where it pays to take time to get to know people and to treat everyone with great respect. Almost always, a gentle pace gets a better result. That doesn’t mean, abandon what you know to be important and what you know works.

A visa, with residency permit, is needed and your employer (sponsor) should have that in place quickly. The sponsor becomes responsible for your conduct during your stay. You cannot change job and transfer sponsor without their approval.

Kuwait is a city with modern infrastructure and modern ambitions. The modern city does not have all the splendour of Doha, Abu Dhabi and Dubai but it is not so far behind in terms of infrastructure. There are museums, mosques, walks and parks along with social centres and evening hotspots to enjoy.

You must also be ready to build your own social setting, simply because this is not so big a country. Take advantage of opportunities to travel and to see many of the remarkable sites through the region.
